I tend to get caught up in the small things, the one single rain drop in front of me. The problem that seems insolvable, the hurdle I don’t see passable. Today I was reading the word and praying, and feeling incredibly caught up in my own worries. I felt the Lord remind me that he sees the big picture. That even with all my shortcomings and character flaws, I add up to something wonderful in the light of his grace.
That to him my success is measured in different terms than I myself measure it. To him I am whole and beautiful and complete and worthy of the affirmation of his love. All the little things I see as challenges, he is using to form, teach, and shape me. He works all things together for my GOOD. It is not so incredible that we have a God who cares about our good?
Matthew 13:12 “To those who listen to my teaching, more understanding will be given, and they will have an abundance of knowledge. But for those who are not listening, even what little understanding they have will be taken away from them. “
Lord, teach me to be a better listener of your word. To know and believe the promises you have given me.

Well I thought you might like to see the newest addition to my office this week. It all started with an ugly $2 beat up green glass lamp from a thrift store in Post Falls. We got home, I plugged it in and LUCKILY it worked, so my $2 investment was off to a good start. A week or so later I got around to getting some spray paint and a lamp shade. And WOW I love how it turned out!
This Sea foam/Robin’s egg/Tiffany Blue/whatever you want to call it/ AMAZING color contrasts so nicely with the grays and blacks I have going on in my office right now. I am finding that selective color can really add a lot to any space.
Amazing how a old Thrift Store lamp, Walmart spray paint, and Target lamp shade can look so classy. Best part is the color I found almost exactly matches my blue coffee table. So nice when these spur of the moment ideas ACTUALLY turn out. Success.
If anyone was wondering about the Spray Paint info:
Color: Blue Ocean Breeze
Finish: indoor/outdoor GLOSS
Fresh. That is the way the start of a new year always feels to me, even if it is just a continuation of the months and seasons. I have never been one to make “new year’s resolutions.” Well, more like I can’t seem to keep new year’s resolutions going all year. Either way, this year I’m asking the Lord to make me more like him.
This of course is something we should always be asking, but recently I’ve felt called to check this against all areas of my life. Growing up in a Christian home, I have always know that we are being sanctified as we walk out our life here on earth, that becoming more like Christ is an ever evolving process. But I also know that if we aren’t striving to be more like Christ, we won’t notice when we slowly drift the other direction, becoming more like the world. This what happens in my heart if I am focusing more on what I want to do, than what God might have me do.
Sparing you all the details, I have realized there have been several areas in my life that have started to drift into the worldly. There has to be a purposeful push back the in the right direction. Feeding my spirit with MORE of him and LESS of me. That is going to be my focus this year.
